Residential Solar & Batteries in Hamilton
Residential Solar & Batteries in Hamilton
Solar designed and installed by local electricians.
2E Electrical designs and installs residential solar and battery systems around how your home actually uses power, your roof, and what you may want to add in the future.

Is Solar Right for Your Home?
The right system depends on how your home uses electricity.
Solar is not one-size-fits-all. The right setup depends on the loads you run, when you run them, and what you plan to add next.

System Size Preview
Common residential solar system sizes.
Around 5 kW
Lower electricity use or limited roof space
Around 6 to 7 kW
A common starting point for many Hamilton homes
Around 8 kW
Higher electricity use or larger daytime loads
10 kW+
High-use homes, EV charging, pools or larger properties
These are examples only. We size systems from the home's actual electricity use, roof, available phases, daytime loads and future plans.
Real Hamilton Solar Project
18 kW Home Solar in Queenwood, Hamilton
Not every home has a perfect north-facing roof.
This Queenwood property sits amongst mature trees and has multiple roof levels and orientations.
2E Electrical designed an 18 kW solar system using the available roof space, including north-facing, flat-roof and south-facing panels.
Because the north/flat and south arrays are monitored separately, we can see how they actually perform in real Hamilton conditions.

3.08 MWh
Generated by the 8 kW south-facing array
Figures are from actual system monitoring from 1 January to 30 September 2026.
Yes, the South-Facing Panels Produce Useful Power
South-facing solar is often ruled out straight away.
On this property, the 8 kW south-facing array generated 3,082 kWh in the first nine months of 2026.
It does not produce as much as the north and flat-roof array, particularly through winter, but it still made a substantial contribution to the home's overall solar generation.
The south-facing array produced about 29% of the property's total solar generation over the same nine-month period.
This is why we assess the whole roof rather than automatically ruling out usable roof space based on orientation alone.
What Happened to the Power Bill?
We also have the home's actual Genesis electricity bills from before and after solar.
For a 32-day billing period in January and February 2025, before solar, the home imported 1,645 kWh from the grid and the electricity charge after discounts was $475.25.
For a similar 29-day period in January and February 2026 with the complete solar system operating, the home imported 506 kWh, exported 1,100 kWh, and the electricity charge after discounts was $81.95.
These are actual retailer bills. Billing periods, electricity rates and household usage can vary, so these figures should not be treated as a guaranteed saving for another property.
Solar Doesn't Always Need a Perfect Roof
This isn't a textbook solar property. The home sits amongst mature trees and has a complicated roof with several orientations.
But by designing around the property rather than using a standard solar package, the complete system generated approximately 10.8 MWh from January to September 2026.
More than 3 MWh of that came from the south-facing roof.
Solar Batteries
Store your solar for later.
A battery lets you store excess solar generation and use it later when your home needs it. Whether a battery makes sense depends on when you use electricity, your solar production, electricity rates and what you want the system to achieve.
